Bronx Zoo baby otter, fruit bats debut

Some new babies are ready to be checked out at the Bronx Zoo. Specifically: an Asian small-clawed otter pup and a colony of Rodrigues fruit bats.

The pup was born this spring and the bats were welcomed in 2016, too. They live in the zoo’s JungleWorld exhibit.

Rodrigues fruit bats, also known as Rodrigues flying foxes, fall under the “critically endangered” classification by the International Congress for the Conservation of Nature. Asian small-clawed otters are deemed “vulnerable.”

The Bronx Zoo, run by the Wildlife Conservation Society, is open daily.
