Since this bi-annual week-long event is exclusively "invitation-only," the chances to score an RSVP are slim to none. Don't pout just yet! New York City is the mecca of fashion, so there are tons of events and activities to hit up before and during Fashion Week that everyone can participate in. Here's our guide to joining in on the most stylish event in NYC. (Don't forget to "Vogue.") Through 9/7: China: Through the Looking Glass Photo Credit: Platon Explore the influence of China on Western high-fashion designers including Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen and Coco Chanel at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The museum's Costume Institute collaborates with its Department of Asian Art to show fashion pieces (such as this evening dress by Valentino S.p.A.), along with Chinese costumes, paintings, porcelains and other art, as well as scenes from films by Chinese directors. $12-$25 (free for members and children), 1000 Fifth Ave., 212-535-7710, metmuseum.org. 9/8: Beverly Johnson in conversation with Andre Leon Talley Photo Credit: mcny.org Join in on the conversation as author and the first African-American supermodel on the cover of American Vogue magazine, Beverly Johnson, as she sits down with Andre Leon Tally, the first African-American creative director of Vogue. The two fashion industry icons will discuss all things related to the world of high fashion and their experiences that influenced and evolved their careers as well as fashion journalism. Chill out and enjoy hair services from the braid bar by RPZL Hair, personal fashion illustrations by Emily Brickel, get fresh polish at the manicure bar and eat yummy Melt Bakery ice cream sandwiches. For more information, visit theateratmsg.com 9/18: Jeremy Scott: The People's Designer Photo Credit: Valdar TV / Youtube Jeremy Scott, the Los Angeles-based designer and creative director for Moschino who is known for his innovative fashions that, according to rapper A$AP Rocky, "bridge together between the ghetto and high-end fashion," will be the star in a bio-documentary. "The People's Designer," from the producer of "Valentino: The Last Emperor," will tell the story of the small-town boy from Missouri who later became the designer to collaborate with Adidas and create the "wing" sneaker collection. The film is star-studded with Scott's clients and friends, including Katy Perry, the current face of Moschino, Miley Cyrus, Rita Ora and more. The film hits select theaters just in time for NYFW.
