If your idea of vacation is spending more time doing Pilates on the beach than lounging on it, you’re not alone.
“People love getting away, and people are all about healthy living now,” said triathlete and Lululemon ambassador Zack Schares.
The Chelsea resident is organizing a three-day wellness retreat called Zaxfit Camp in the Hudson Valley region next month that will feature fitness classes and healthy food.
If you’re looking to work out, kick back with an organic beer and meet other like-minded people, here are three upcoming health and wellness retreats in New York State.

The Path: Montauk Retreat
June 2-5
Montauk
The ancient practice of meditation is currently trending, thanks to studios such as MNDFL. If you’re hopping on the meditation bandwagon, New York-based meditation company The Path is organizing a retreat in Montauk for 20 people, where you can practice meditation twice a day, as well as do yoga, with Ally Bogard. There will also be food by Daphne Cheng (of the NYC vegan supper club Suite ThreeOhSix), bike tours, nature hikes, paddleboarding, massage and more. Lodging can be arranged at the Hither House Cottages, and transportation will be provided to and from the retreat home base. $900/person (does not include accommodations); thepath.com/beach
Pilates, Barre and SUP in the Hamptons
June 10-12
The Hamptons
Since launching last year, the NYC-based Ketanga Fitness organizes fitness activities both locally and abroad, in destinations such as Costa Rica and Tulum, Mexico. It has several retreats planned on the East End this summer, including this weekend in the Hamptons. The getaway features two daily workouts — Pilates and barre — led by coaches Kelly Keesler and Anna Bonnell, as well as a stand-up paddleboarding excursion. Participants can also enjoy the beach, play tennis and shop in town. The intimate retreat is geared toward about 10 guests, with accommodations at Ocean Vista in Amagansett. $1,095/person for a shared room, $1355/single room (includes accommodations and two group dinners); ketangafitness.com
Staying healthy
Hotels are getting on board the wellness trend, from menus to in-room exercise gear. Equinox even recently announced it’s planning to open a chain of healthy hotels starting with New York in 2018. Here’s a look at three brands for the health-minded guest:
EVEN Hotels
This wellness hotel chain, part of the InterContinental Hotels Group, recently opened a hotel near Times Square and has a Brooklyn location slated to open this spring. Guests can find such amenities as a 24-hour gym, in-room “fitness zones” complete with cork flooring and exercise equipment, healthy food and beverage options like smoothies and more. Outside of New York, EVEN Hotels are in Rockville, Maryland; Omaha, Nebraska; and Norwalk, Connecticut.
Westin Hotels & Resorts
The hotel chain launched its “Well-Being Movement” in 2014 at nearly 200 hotels and resorts, focusing on areas such as moving, eating and sleeping. That translates to world-class fitness studios, New Balance sneaker and clothing rentals (so guests really don’t have any excuses), nutrient-rich dishes such as whole-wheat blueberry pancakes, its signature Heavenly Bed (for a restorative sleep) and spa treatments like healing massages.
Row NYC
The two-year-old Times Square hotel introduced a new amenity over the summer — a Cyc Fitness location. The indoor cycling studio is open to both hotel guests and locals, with 45-minute rides offered daily and free shoe rentals. Guests can also find a fitness studio on the hotel’s third floor, complete with treadmills, elliptical machines and recumbent bikes. A Glam&Go express styling bar is also located in the hotel, so you can look your best post-workout.
