Union Square Park Adoptapalooza: Dogs, cats enjoy a day in the sun

The dog run had no boundaries at Union Square Park on Sunday. Hundreds of dogs and cats hung out at the park for Adoptapalooza.

The event brought potential adopters downtown to spend the afternoon with the shelter animals. The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals and the Petco Foundation partnered with 25 organizations and shelters with the goal of placing as many as possible in new homes. More than 360 adoption applications were filed on site, according to the Mayor’s Alliance.

This adoption meet-and-greet was unlike any other shelter experience. Dogs and cats cuddled with humans, relaxed in the sun and posed for portraits.

If you didn’t head down to Union Square Park, you not only missed out on adopting one of these cuties, but you also missed witnessing them learn to surf.
