A candidate who gives

Some city councilmembers pride themselves on being proactive, but Gur Tsabar is being a proactive candidate. As the petition-gathering process recently kicked off, Tsabar and his campaign workers were also collecting clothes donated from local residents that will be given to the needy. At the Astor Pl. and First Ave. subway stops, they collected 100 bags of clothes in all. Previously, Tsabar collected 500 books for an East Village school, 70 cell phones for local seniors, gave $750 of his campaign funds to local organizations — $500 for the Phipps Plaza Tenants Association and $250 for Gay Men’s Health Crisis — and “passed out hundreds of tax-assistance coupons.” Of the clothing drive, Tsabar said, “People gave some really nice stuff — and it helps people clean out their closets, too. It’s a win-win for everybody.”
