Brown Harris returns to Tribeca
Brown Harris Stevens has finally decided to return to Tribeca after more than a century. Few know that Charles Brown, the founder of the real estate appraisal business, that today is all over New York, started from a small office on Chambers St.
While any foundation that the company had on Chambers St. has been forgotten long ago with the office having moved from there more than a century ago, the firm has made a comeback to its neighborhood. Last week, the firm has returned to their home ground by opening a storefront office in Tribeca on N. Moore St.
A move that according to, Kurt Weyrauch, Brown’s senior vice-president and director of the Downtown Division, had been planned pre-September 11 but got delayed because of the catastrophe.
“We were supposed to move before September 11. But that happened and it delayed our plans. Since then we have been searching for a premier place for a real estate company our size, which could match our image and promise us the visibility we enjoy. Last week we finally found it,” said Weyrauch.
With the company “moving back to its neighborhood,” Weyrauch expected the sales to get a tremendous boost. “Not everyone can claim returning to their neighborhood after having started the company right here more than a century ago. We have,” said Weyrauch.
