Launching extended hours and a new poetry program for toddlers (Tiny Poets Time), the new schedule of the Poets House Children’s Room began on the morning of April 17 with an interactive reading by U.S. Poet Laureate Mary Ann Hoberman, left, and teacher Linda Winston (not shown) from their new anthology “The Tree That Time Built: A Celebration of Nature, Science and Imagination.”

Hoberman and Winston also wrote a communal poem with the children in the audience about the Hudson River. Children spent the rest of the afternoon at typewriter stations or browsing through the children’s poetry books or reading to stuffed animals. The Poets House Children’s Room is free and open Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tiny Poets Time is held Thursdays at 10 a.m.
