After “I Do”

There are still some unanswered questions following this summer’s passage of New York’s marriage equality bill. Some same-sex couples are wondering about issues such as Social Security, tax returns, adoption and health benefits, which may or may not fall under the jurisdiction of the federal government, specifically the Defense of Marriage Act.

To answer these and other questions, State Senator Daniel Squadron, Congressmembers Carolyn Maloney, Jerrold Nadler and Nydia Velázquez, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer and others have organized a forum called “After ‘I Do’ – What’s Next for LGBT New Yorkers.”

The forum plans to tackle numerous issues and will include representatives from the Empire State Pride Agenda, New York Civil Liberties Union and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, among others.

“After ‘I Do’ – What’s Next for LGBT New Yorkers,” will take place at Borough of Manhattan Community College, Richard Harris Terrace, 199 Chambers St. on Tues., Aug 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.  RSVP at squadron@nysenate.gov.
