Art Commission will vote on Jan. 9

Although it is listed as a preliminary hearing, the Art Commission will vote at its Mon. Jan. 9 hearing on the Parks Department’s plan to conserve and relocate the Washington Square Park fountain and two statues as part of the park’s $16 million renovation project. Carli Smith, a Parks spokesperson, confirmed that the Art Commission will be voting that day on the fountain and statues.

Silvia Alvarez, a spokesperson for the Art Commission, said that the final hearing by the Art Commission would occur after all the work is completed. At that point, the commission would give its final approval if all the work has been done properly and there is an adequate maintenance plan in place for the fountains and statue.

The hearing begins at 8:45 a.m. in the City Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall.
