A girl named Awa, right, took a spin on the flying swings, one of the rides provided by the Battery Park City Neighbors Association at the group’s sixth-annual block party Sept. 16. The block party also featured music, food from local restaurants, a flea market, and information booths about animal adoption and green living. This year the association honored Brigadier General Sidney Baumgarten (Ret.), founder of the neighborhood’s Community Emergency Response Team, and the senior citizens of Battery Park City for their activism.
