Police in the Bronx are investigating after a baby, just shy of her first birthday, was found dead in the bathroom of her home Wednesday night.
According to law enforcement sources, officers from the 42nd Precinct on Aug. 14 at around 7:41 p.m. responded to a 911 call of a person in need of help at 1314 West Farms Rd. in Crotona Park East.
When officers arrived, they found the female infant, Jazeli Mirabal, inside a bathtub, unconscious and unresponsive.
EMS responded and rushed the baby to NYC Health and Hospitals/Lincoln where she was pronounced dead.
Authorities said police are questioning the baby’s mother, who left the child in the tub while she went on an errand to a nearby store. Preliminary reports say that there does not appear to be a history of domestic violence issues inside the home.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
