Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders returned to his hometown in Brooklyn Friday as he steps up his campaign in the city ahead of the April 19 primary.
The Vermont senator announced he will hold two rallies in his native Brooklyn on Friday – one in Flatbush/Midwood and the other in Greenpoint.
The first rally began at 3 p.m. on “Bernie’s Block” at 1525 East 26th St., near where Sanders grew up. Entry to the rally began at 1 p.m.
The second rally will get underway around 5 p.m. at WNYC Transmitter Park on Greenpoint Avenue. Entry to the rally began at 3 p.m.
Both rallies are open to the public. Admission is first come, first serve and residents are urged to RSVP for both the Flatbush/Midwood event and the Greenpoint event.
Sanders will then spend Saturday in Harlem with African-American leaders in the community, his campaign said. They’re expected to discuss Sanders’ plans to fix the country’s criminal justice system and how to improve police-community relations.
A rally is also scheduled for next Wednesday in Washington Square Park.
