Sally Blount-Lyon, a management professor at the New York University Stern School of Business, was named dean of the Stern School undergraduate college this week, the first woman to hold the post.
She takes over on July 1, replacing Frederick Choi, who announced last year that he would give up the post he has held for nine years.
The incoming Stern School dean came to N.Y.U. in 2001 from the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business. Her recent research involves the perception and management of time in social interactions and how it affects work performance.
Blount-Lyon, who is married with three children, earned her BA at Princeton and spent five years as a financial consultant before getting her master’s and doctorate from Northwestern University.
She did not apply for the deanship until the Stern School selection committee asked her to consider the post. “We were looking for someone … to exemplify the best of both of our missions as a research university: outstanding scholarship and a devotion to teaching,” said N.Y.U. president John Sexton.
