Boomerang lands in the World Financial Center

Boomerang Toys has done a brisk business in Tribeca for four years, and is now playing with the big kids at the World Financial Center.

Boomerang opened its second location at the W.F.C. office complex on Oct. 10 and is hoping to provide a convenient place for working parents to pick up something for their kids.

“I live in south Battery Park City and my kids go to school in P.S. 89 and we know there are a lot of families here that don’t get to our Tribeca location,” owner Karen Barwick said.

The newest location is about the same size as the old, 1000 square feet, however, Barwick said the W.F.C. store has a small room off the back, creating a slightly smaller display area.

“There are a lot of corporate workers so we anticipate a slightly different clientele,” she said of the new spot.

Three days after opening, however, Barwick said they were still seeing familiar faces from the area who were visiting the closer store.

Boomerang is located in the W.F.C. right across from SouthWest New York, near the Liberty St. entrance on the ground floor.

“We’ve been trying to get a toy store to come to the financial center for a long time,” said Melissa Coley, a spokesperson for Brookfield Properties, owner of the W.F.C.

She said that the demand for family oriented businesses in the area has increased in recent years and has left businesses taking a second look at Downtown.

“I went down there at lunch and it was just buzzing,” Coley said.
