21-year-old man shot dead on Brooklyn street in broad daylight: cops

Police in Brooklyn are seeking the shooter who gunned down a 21-year-old man on Thursday afternoon.

Officers from the 75th Precinct responded to a 911 call and a ShotSpotter activation at the corner of Belmont and Euclid Avenues in East New York at about 12:48 p.m. on March 28. ShotSpotter is the NYPD’s network of sound sensors designed to pickup possible sounds of gunfire, and initiate a rapid police response.

Upon arriving at the scene, the officers found the victim lying on the ground with a bullet wound to his torso.

EMS rushed the victim to a waiting ambulance, with paramedics administering CPR, that was shuttled off to Brookdale University Hospital. Despite all efforts, the victim died a short time later at the medical facility. Police have not yet released the man’s identity, pending family notification.

Police have not yet provided information about a possible motive for the shooting, or a description of the killer. So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, police said.

Through March 24, the 75th Precinct had seen three homicides year-to-date, equal to the number recorded at the same point in 2023, according to the most recent CompStat report. The precinct also tallied 11 shootings, down from 14 at the same time last year.
