Christmas begins at the Seaport

Santa Claus banished the Grinch from the South Street Seaport during the kick-off celebration for the Seaport’s annual holiday festivities Fri., Nov. 24. Clad in holiday colors, a young girl took a photo of the South Street Seaport’s 50-foot “Chorus Tree” at the tree-lighting ceremony, above. A tradition at the Seaport, the tree features choral performances on weekends and regular appearances by Old Saint Nick, who emceed the tree-lighting celebration. The Big Apple Chorus will be back to sing from within the tree on Fridays (6 and 7 p.m.), Saturdays and Sundays (3 and 4 p.m.) during the holiday season, with a final pair of performances on Christmas Eve.
