On Aug. 16, as the blackout was ending, the No Police State Coalition held its third in an ongoing series of protest marches from Union Sq. to Tompkins Sq. The marchers, who oppose the Bush Administration’s erosion of civil liberties under the Patriot Act, make a point of not getting a permit for their demonstrations, feeling it’s their right to assemble and march in the street. At the rallies, some of the members actively seek confrontation with the police and try to get arrested.
