This year, the Republican National Convention is in Cleveland; it starts July 18. The Democratic National Convention hits Philadelphia beginning July 25.
But in the past, it’s been our turn here in New York City. In 1868, before the invention of the light bulb and the gasoline-powered automobile, the DNC took place at Tammany Hall; it returned, to a world we recognize a bit more, in 1924, at Madison Square Garden, then again in 1976, 1980 and 1992. The RNC hit us up in 2004.
Though the purpose of these conventions remains more or less the same, the faces change a bit each year. Take a look back as conventions of NYC past.
