Residents looking for a new best friend can find one (or two) this Sunday when Downtown Doghouse Pet Salon & Boutique plays host to an Animal Haven program. Animal Haven, a no-kill rescue foundation whose home office is in Flushing, sponsors periodic “Pets to the People” events throughout the greater New York area.
In these events, the shelter places several of its dogs and cats in its Mobile Adoption Van and sets up shop for a few hours in a local pet supply – or women’s clothing stores.
“We’re trying to do something a little different, and reach people we otherwise wouldn’t, so we’ve had a few Mobile Adoptions in restaurants, things like that,” said Jennifer Bristol, Animal Haven’s associate director.
Adoption applications are taken on the spot at mobile events, which Bristol said have been very successful. The Downtown Doghouse event will run from 11:30 a.m. –3 p.m., and will feature about 5 dogs and 8 cats. Bristol said that the June 13 adoption will feature “all sizes, varieties, and ages.”
Downtown Doghouse is located at 259 West 18th St. They can be reached at (212) 924-5300. Animal Haven Shelter is at 35 Prince St. in Flushing, Queens. They can be reached at (718) 886-3683.
