Pope Francis is the latest high-profile name to draw the ire of Donald Trump after the pontiff appeared to suggest that the Republican presidential candidate is not Christian.
It all started when Trump last week took issue with the pope’s trip to the Mexican border, calling the pontiff “a very political person.”
Then, the pope responded.
“A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian,” Pope Francis said Thursday when asked about Trump’s plan to stop illegal immigration.
The GOP presidential candidate quickly fired back, calling it “disgraceful” to question a person’s faith.
On Friday, the Vatican responded that the pope’s remarks were not “a personal attack” on Trump.
