Pricey zips
This week, Forbes Magazine released its annual list of the country’s most expensive zip codes and the West Village (10014) and SoHo (10012) both placed in the top ten. According to the list the median home price for the West Village, number five on the list, is $3,785,445. SoHo, in the number nine spot, has a median home price of $3,221,371.
Dumping e-waste
The Lower East Side Ecology Center and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver are teaming up on Sunday, October 3 to help rid Lower Manhattan of electronic waste. Residents, small businesses and nonprofits are invited to Delancey Street between Chrystie and Forsyth Streets to dispose of products such as computers, monitors, keyboards, televisions and scanners.
Mini-munchers
On September 13, Carla Sullivan, a mom in Battery Park North launched a new website dedicated to restaurants that cater to the little ones. The site, www.minimunchers.com, has had over 1,600 visitors already and is the ultimate resource for parents who have a hard time finding a good place to eat with their kids. The site is searchable by price, cuisine, neighborhood, and destination, as well as special, kid friendly features and includes menus and reviews
Poll problems
The City Council has called on the board of elections to make changes after city-wide reports that voters with disabilities had trouble accessing poll sites. There were also reports of voters receiving incorrect or inappropriate instructions while at the polls.
“The new voting machines mark a watershed for our city. But they also impose new responsibilities,” said Governmental Operations Committee Chair Gale A. Brewer. “We must make sure that every voter counts equally, and remember that a new technology is only as good as the expertise of those trained to use it.”
