On Saturday, East Villagers brought more than 800 Christmas trees to Tompkins Square Park for recycling at the Parks Department’s annual MulchFest. The mulch will be used at city parks, ball fields and community gardens. “He was a good boy,” said Haruto Imamura, with girlfriend Megan Burns, as they high-fived their about-to-be-mulched tree, above. Eileen Shields, with sons Sam, 7, and Jamie, 4, below, said, “We told them that we were bringing it here to make food to grow next year’s Christmas trees.” Then they gave the tannenbaum a hug and said goodbye.
