City Councilmember Alan Gerson, center, presented Downtown Express with a City Council proclamation Thursday in recognition the paper’s 20th anniversary. The resolution praised the Express for its coverage of Lower Manhattan after two terrorist attacks, particularly after 9/11 when the paper expanded to a weekly and provided displaced residents and businesses with more timely information about air quality, street closures and school relocations.
