Patrick Paschak

Father Patrick Paschak, longtime pastor at St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church on E. Seventh St. near Third Ave., died on Nov. 25 in the hospital, after a long illness from cancer. He was 82. Born in Winnipeg, Canada, he was principal at St. George’s High School from 1949-’59, was provincial superior for the Basilian Church in America from 1970-’82 and head pastor at St. George’s Church from 1981-2000, when he retired, after which he continued to live at and help run St. George’s. He was involved in the construction of St. George’s School, the new church and a 13-story building belonging to the church. He gave the benediction when Dr. George Campbell Jr. was installed as Cooper Union’s president four years ago. Sunday night a panachyda, or special service, was held for Father Patrick at St. George’s, and on Monday a Mass was held for him at the church. He is survived by a brother, Walter, and a sister, Ephiphanie, a nun. He will be buried in Winnipeg.
