Downtown’s future transportation hub is well in the works.
The Fulton Street Transit Center, scheduled to open in 2014, is already in operation: Sections of the A and C mezzanine levels have opened, in addition to the southbound platform of the R line’s Cortlandt Street station, according to a December 23 report in the New York Times.
The skeleton of the hub’s oculus, which illuminates the station’s underground levels and crowns its central building at Fulton Street and Broadway, has also been completed.
“We’re trying to create a great public space, not just connect stations,” said Uday Durg, director of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Lower Manhattan projects, told the N.Y.T.
