For the second consecutive year, Gracie Mansion, the official mayoral residence on East End Avenue, was lit in orange on the evening of November 25 to mark the United Nations Secretary-General’s UNiTE to End Violence Against Women campaign. That date marked the opening of 16 days of worldwide activism to combat gender-based violence targeting women and girls.

In New York, The city’s Commission on Gender Equity, co-chaired by First Lady Chirlane McCray, and the Office for International Affairs will carry out efforts to raise public awareness of the crisis of violence that faces women and to mobilize residents to join in constructive efforts to end it.

Details on the global drive, which is using the hashtag #OrangeTheWorld, can be found here.

In addition to Gracie Mansion, City Hall was also bathed in orange light on the evening of November 25.
