The NYPD cuffed on Wednesday the man they say is responsible for a brutal Hamilton Heights baseball bat attack last month.
Karim Azizi, 38, of West 149th Street was booked for the shocking Nov. 29 assault that was caught on camera and appalled the city.
According to police sources, Azizi was wanted by the NYPD for the ambush of a pedestrian on 1770 Amsterdam Ave at 8 a.m. on Nov. 29 after allegedly randomly targeting his victim.
Surveillance footage from the scene shows the suspect waiting for a man to walk by when he swiftly produced an orange bat from inside his pants, only to whack the victim across the back of the skull.
As the attacker fled, police said the victim was left on the sidewalk, bleeding. He was rushed by paramedics to NYC Health and Hospitals/Harlem where he was found to have suffered a head laceration and severe bruising.
Azizi was escorted out of the 30th Precinct in shackles by detectives just after 2 p.m., and is charged with attempted assault, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. He remained silent with his head down as he was placed in the back of an unmarked police vehicle.
