Popeye’s Chicken and Biscuits at 143 Fulton St. has been closed for evidence of mice in food areas, according to the city Department of Health.
The fast food chain’s Downtown location received a whopping 49 points’ worth of violations on December 16, considerably more than the 27 points given to “C” grade restaurants, according to the D.O.H. The restaurant’s reopening is pending until restaurant operators retake a food protection course and pass a corresponding exam, according to a Department spokesperson.
“The re-opening inspection will be scheduled once the restaurant’s management gets in touch with the Health Department,” the spokesperson said.
In better news, Edward’s, an American bistro at 136 West Broadway, has made a comeback — recently receiving an “A” grade from the D.O.H. after being slammed with 62 points of violations upon an initial inspection earlier this month.
Previous violations included food contamination, rodent activity, and improper cleaning of food contact surfaces, according to the D.O.H.
Neither restaurant could immediately be reached for comment.
