High Line fans ‘spurred’ to action

A public forum on the impact that the development of the Eastern Rail Yards will have upon the northern section of the High Line will be held on Mon., Dec. 1, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Red Cross, 520 W. 49th St.

High Line advocates are calling for a big turnout by the public to show support for preserving the entire High Line, including the so-called “spur,” a small, dead-end section that juts off the old elevated railway at W. 32nd St.

At the forum, The Related Companies, the designated developer for the site, will present its latest plans for the Eastern Rail Yards. Advocates say this could be the only public meeting on the issue before the site’s zoning is modified to allow the project.

All supporters who attend will get a free “Save the Spur” T-shirt and button.

The forum is being hosted by Community Board 4 and the Hudson Yards Community Advisory Committee. Participants are asked to R.S.V.P. by e-mail to railyards@thehighline.org.
