Mercy Corp’s Action Center to End World Hunger, located in Battery Park City, is putting on a performance next Monday at the Momentum Soup Kitchen at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 65th Street and Central Park West.
Eight high school students from Urban Assembly for Law and Justice High School in Brooklyn will perform in a theatrical production at the Church after undergoing an intensive three-week program of community service, education and theatrical rehearsals that will end Thursday. The students have also been volunteering at the Momentum Soup Kitchen, preparing pantry bags, setting up and distributing lunches to the clients.
“Participants will gain a powerfully rewarding experience as they explore social justice, global awareness and personal development as they strive to better their own awareness… and encourage action in their communities,” according to a written statement prepared by Gil Corral, the center’s education officer.
The mission of the Action Center to End World Hunger, the educational branch of Mercy Corp, is to “raise awareness about global hunger and inspire communities to take action.”
