Jack Parker Corporation executives and members of the public will be testifying at a hearing before the City Planning Commission on June 7 over the firm’s proposal to rezone the 4-block area of northern Tribeca. The four-block area is bounded by West, Watts, Hubert and Washington Sts. The proposal looks to build new residential towers with heights of 120 to 160 feet (roughly 12 to 16 stories) and with a density equal to 6-7.5 times the lot size.
Many North Tribeca residents are concerned about the proposal, feeling that the new buildings will block off views to the water with large, bulky buildings. Community Board 1 and Borough President Scott Stringer voted against the plan as part of the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure. The Parker development, between Watts and Desbrosses Sts., will contain mostly small studio, one- and two- bedroom rental units, averaging in size to be about 850 sq. feet.
The hearing is open for anyone to testify and will take place at 10 a.m., June 7 at the City Planning Commission – 22 Reade St. between Broadway and Centre St.
