Community Board 2’s Parks Committee chairperson, Aubrey Lees, thinks she’s found the answer to Washington Sq. Park’s entrenched pot-dealing problem — legalize marijuana. Her proposal will be discussed and possibly voted on at the committee’s May 5 meeting, at 6:30 p.m., at the C.B. 2 office, 3 Washington Sq. Village. At the same meeting, Bill Castro, Manhattan borough Parks commissioner, will give an update on the plan to renovate Washington Sq. Park. Should Lees’ pro-pot resolution pass the committee, the next step will be for the full board to vote on it at its May 20 meeting. When she was chairperson of the board two years ago, Lees held a forum on the idea of legalizing prostitution as a means to combat street prostitution and associated quality of life crimes in the Village.
