While President Bush was reeling from criticism on the government’s slow response to help New Orleans after the hurricane and flood, Soho kids were on the ball last Saturday afternoon, doing their part. Above, Anastasia, age 7, and Maximillian, 4, Von Habsburg of Broome St. set up a stand — in front of and with the cooperation of Thompson St.’s Country Cafe — to sell homemade lemonade and cookies with the proceeds going toward the relief effort. “We’re raising money for food and milk,” Maximillian explained, as he poured a glass of tangy lemonade. At right, Minky Kyriakas sat on her stoop on W. Broadway amid artists selling their work, selling some lovingly worn books, the proceeds going toward the Red Cross.
