Florent looked like the Folies Bergeres last Thursday night as the popular Gansevoort St. eatery celebrated Bastille Day in high camp style, with high-kicking dancers on the bar. Florent Morellet, owner of the eponymous bistro, as usual came as Marie Antoinette, though this year, in keeping with the event’s “Go Nuclear” theme, he wore a mushroom-cloud wig. The theme referred both to the infamous nonexistent Niger uranium that Saddam Hussein was supposedly trying to buy to make W.M.D.’s — “Let them eat yellow cake,” was the night’s slogan — as well as the Republican senators’ effort to eliminate the filibuster in Washington.
