Yankee come home
To The Editor:
It was sad to see the Yankee being towed away from Pier 25 (news article, Dec. 9 –15, “Waiting for cries of ‘Yankee come home’”).
The ferry boat had an almost organic fit with its location, and looked good against the Downtown skyline. I dread the upscale renovation, which is unlikely to have anything like the community feeling of the two old piers.
I can’t understand the Hudson River Trust’s hostility toward the Yankee’s owners, or why they object to their return — the boat belongs there, we want it back. And as for the law against people living on boats, an exception could be made for the boat to be both lived in and part of the park, as it was for 15 years.
