A wave of anti-gay violence in recent weeks, escalating with the murder of Marc Carson in Greenwich Village on May 18, prompted a march of 1,500 people from a nearby L.G.B.T. Center Monday, May 20, to the site of the shooting on 8th St. The most recent victim of anti-gay crime was gay rights activist Eugene Lovendusky, who said he was walking hand-in-hand with a male friend when he was assaulted by a teenager, who also used a gay slur.
