New York University and Village Care are hosting their Second Annual “Take Charge of Your Health Today” Free Health Forum on Tuesday, May 14th, from 5-8pm. The event will take place at the NYU Global Center for Academic and Spiritual Life, at 238 Thompson Street (5th floor). At 5pm, an expo with information on health resources will open the event. The forum takes place from 6-8pm. Complimentary sandwiches and refreshments will be provided during the session. To RSVP, call 212-992-7323.
This forum will highlight important current health issues in today’s complex environment. Dr. Max Gomez, the award-winning popular medical TV reporter for CBS, will moderate a panel discussion. This year, the forum has added some new components, such as information on legal aspects (including living wills and health proxies) and how to reach out to your financial institution in order to make the right choices.
Elizabeth Butson, board member of Village Care and chair of the health forum, notes the importance of knowing “the seven questions you need to know to ask your primary doctor, and the importance of building, step-by-step, your goals — in order to achieve a positive change in your quality of life. The stress of legal and financial needs when facing long illness requires planning and information. We have excellent panelists who will discuss these needs and take questions from the audience.”
Among the distinguished panelists who will address health advocacy, community health resources, communication with your health provider, realistic health goals, long-term care and managed care, financial and legal arrangements for yourself and those in your care, are: Dr. Tara Cortes (Executive Director of the NYU College of Nursing), Sharon Cooper (JD, Partner: Gardner, Weiss and Rosenblum), Dr. Marcia Wade (Medical Director for Managed Long Term Care at Village Care), Dr. Jonathan Whiteson (Director of Cardiopulmonary Rehab at Rusk, NYU Langone Center) and Kimberly Williams, of Citibank.
The media sponsor for this event is The Villager (Chelsea Now’s sister publication), and the community sponsor is The Greenwich Village Chelsea Chamber of Commerce.
