The results are in and Mayor Bill de Blasio does not have the novel coronavirus.

On Monday, the mayor canceled a packed schedule of public events after he woke up feeling under the weather a day after he joined a march against police brutality in East Harlem and about a week after addressing a crowd of protesters at Brooklyn’s Cadman Plaza.

De Blasio spokesperson Freddi Goldstein told the Daily News that the mayor’s illness was most likely not coronavirus related, later saying that he was suffering from a stomach bug and would not be tested.

After Governor Andrew Cuomo publicly received a coronavirus viral test during a televised press conference in May, the mayor told reporters that he too would get tested. But during his daily press conference on Tuesday, the mayor admitted that he had yet to be tested and pledged to do so soon. For weeks the mayor has told New Yorkers to get both viral and antibody tests.

City Hall broke the news that the mayor had finally gotten a viral test in a Tuesday afternoon tweet featuring a photo of the mayor sitting down, head back, waiting for a long q-tip to be inserted into his nose in Lower Manhattan’s Governeur Hospital, according to Goldstein. The mayor’s negative test result was revealed Wednesday morning again in a tweet.

The mayor did not receive an antibody test, Goldstein told amNY in an email.
