Police announced the arrest of a New Jersey man who they say fatally shot a man in Washington Heights three years ago.

Authorities say that at 12:38 a.m. on Oct. 3, 2019, officers from the 33rd Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a man shot outside of 501 West 168th St. Upon their arrival, officers found 27-year-old Alberto Martinez with a gunshot wound to his torso.

Paramedics rushed Martinez, who was reportedly a member of the Trinitarios gang, to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Following an ongoing investigation, police arrested 22-year-old Jerson Acosta Batista on Oct. 12, 2022. He was charged with criminally negligent homicide, attempted robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, hindering prosecution and tampering with physical evidence.

Another suspect in the shooting remains at large, police said.
