Financial District residents Sharon Martin and Joel Savitzky and other Downtown New Year’s Eve revelers looked for some body warmth while taking a picture outside Trinity Church Monday, opposite page. This was the second year in a row the church rang in the year with change-ringing bells, renewing a tradition that was ended in 1904 in deference to Times Square. Last year, Trinity held services with the change ringing, but this year the church was closed and the winds made it hard to hear the bells. Meanwhile underground, celebrants on their way to a Brooklyn party snapped pictures while Ryley McCarthy of Washington, D.C., tried the 6 train’s banjo acoustics.
