Pearl Harbor’s 75th anniversary: A look back at the attack, trial

It’s been 75 years since the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, claiming thousands of American lives and catapulting the United States into World War II.

The surprise attack, on Dec. 7, 1941, killed more than 2,400 Americans and destroyed the U.S. Pacific Fleet. One day later, our country declared war on Japan.

Events to commemorate the 75th anniversary will take place in Hawaii, Washington, D.C. and other cities. In New York, the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum will host a wreath-laying ceremony and a live broadcast of the commemoration in Hawaii.
