Pearl Street playground overhaul

A children’s playground on Pearl Street in the Financial District is undergoing significant renovations, according to the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. The purpose of the project, the Department said, is to revamp the play area with new play equipment for pre-teens and tots, and add a safety surface as well as new pavements and plantings.

The space will also comprise a small plaza with seating, according to the Department, which is planning to integrate the nearby “Little Pearl Street” into the park. The $1.6 million project is due for completion in spring 2012.
