Boat burns
A private pleasure boat from Liberty Harbor Yacht Club in Weehawken caught fire in the Hudson River at about 8:30 on Labor Day, police said. A police hover launch picked up the nine people aboard and brought them to safety to the Christopher St. Pier on the Village waterfront. A fireboat towed the burning 38-ft. boat to the same pier where land-based firefighters extinguished the blaze, according to the fire department. A man answering the phone at the Liberty Harbor Yacht Club on Tuesday acknowledged that the boat was berthed at the club but he declined to provide further information.
Police and F.D.N.Y. crews had taken charge of the situation Sept. 4 by the time a Coast Guard launch arrived, according to a Coast Guard spokesperson.
Robbery charges
Police arrested two women on Wed. Aug. 30 in connection with a 3:30 p.m. mugging at the corner of Thompson and Watts Sts. The suspects, Natasha Spires, 21, and Tamessha Davis, 26 were charged with punching and pulling the hair of a woman pedestrian and making off with her cell phone.
Camera gone
A patron at Soho La Petite Café, 156 Spring St. on Friday afternoon Sept. 1 left her camera in the women’s bathroom and went back a moment later but found it was gone, police said.
Bag stolen in Soho
A woman shopping at Bellora America, 156 Wooster St. on Sunday afternoon Sept. 3 put her bag down for a moment and found it missing when she turned back for it, police said. She lost $55 in cash, her credit cards and driver’s license along with the bag.
Stop shoplifter
Security guards at the Apple computer store at 103 Prince St. at the corner of Greene St. arrested a man they saw putting accessory items in his pocket late Sunday afternoon Sept. 3, police said. The suspect, Peter Maldonado, was also found to have two packets of heroin and two needles in his possession, police said.
Left bag
A patron of Café Novecento, 343 W. Broadway, left her Coach bag at her table at 4:10 p.m. Sun. Sept, 2 while she went to the bathroom and returned to find it gone along with her credit cards, police said.
