Teens arrested
Transit police arrested nine teenagers on Friday afternoon April 20 in connection with an attack on a man coming out of the subway station at William and Fulton Sts. One of the suspects punched the victim, a Brooklyn man, 42, in the face as he was walking up the stairs and snatched his portable PlayStation, police said.
At the top of the stairs the victim ran into about seven more youths who menaced him, so he went back down the stairs chasing the group of nine that originally attacked him, police said. The youths got onto a Brooklyn-bound train but the victim held the doors open until Transit police arrived and arrested the suspects, charging them with assault and robbery. The suspects included Shamaire Brown, 17, the only female arrested, Haven Johnson, 17, Shawn Duncan, 17, Christopher Bovain, 16, and Zachary Bloomfield, 16. The other suspects were younger than 16 and not named. The teens at the top of the stairs got away.
Cyclist hit 2 ways
A car drove onto the sidewalk on the southwest corner of W. Broadway at Broome St. and ran into a man on a bicycle at about 9:30 a.m. Tues. April 17, police said. The bicycle rider followed the car as it pulled away but the driver stopped, got out and hit the cyclist over the head with a club, police said. The driver then drove away and the cyclist, 24, a Brooklyn resident, was taken to St. Vincent’s in stable condition, police said.
Deutsche theft
The construction manager at the Deutsche Bank demolition site, 130 Liberty St., told police that a burglar made off with $1,400 in cash and miscellaneous tools sometime between April 24 and April 27.
Talked down
Two N.Y.P.D. Emergency Service Unit officers talked a man out of jumping from the top of the Manhattan tower of the Brooklyn Bridge on Sunday morning April 29. The man made his way to the top of the tower undetected and called a relative on his cell phone to say he intended to jump, police said. The relative phoned 911 and Det. Thomas Byrnes and Officer James Ludvich came at about 6:30 a.m., made their way to the tower top, but stood back when the man threatened to jump. The two officers talked to him for half an hour and convinced him to come down with them.
Jeans thieves
A group of four men entered a Soho clothing boutique at 464 W. Broadway at about 5:45 p.m. Sat. April 21 and made off with 28 pairs of jeans valued at $740 without paying for them, police said. The manager spotted the shoplifters and followed them to Houston St. where they got into a Ford Taurus parked at the curb. The manager stuck his hand into the open back window to grab the jeans but one of the suspects held his hand as the car drove off, dragging the manager about 30 feet and injuring him, police said. The suspects drove away west on Houston St.
Wine theft arrest
A First Precinct officer walking the beat at Beach St. and W. Broadway around 1:45 a.m. Sat. April 28 heard glass breaking and an alarm sounding at Dellarovere Restaurant, which has been closed for a year. Police spotted and arrested a man coming out of the place with three bottles of wine. The burglary suspect, Bryan Schuler, told arresting officers that the restaurant owed him $30,000 in back pay, police said.
Chelsea High ruckus
A group of six Chelsea Career and Technical High School male students beat up a fellow student in the building at 131 Sixth Ave at about 2:30 p.m. on Fri. April 13, police said. One of the assailants, who kicked the victim and bit him on the ear, was apprehended and charged as a juvenile, police said.
