Female subway robbers
Two teenage girls knocked a woman down and beat her in an attempt to rob her in the A,C,E Canal St. subway station on Sixth Ave. Wednesday afternoon, May 23, police said. A witness told police that the girls, described as about 14 years old, one black and the other Hispanic, punched the victim, a Brooklyn resident, 24, about the head and face while she was on the floor while repeatedly demanding money. The suspects fled without taking anything, police said. The subway stop houses a transit police station.
Underground pickpocket
A man on a crowded IND train at 5:10 p.m. Tues. May 22 grabbed a hand that was moving near his front left pants pocket where he kept his wallet, police said. The pickpocket said, “I didn’t do anything” and fled the train at the Canal St. A,C,E station on Sixth Ave., police said. The victim, 57, from New Hyde Park, later discovered his credit cards were gone and that unauthorized charges had been made on them.
Robbed on Wall St.
A woman exiting a cab at Wall and Water Sts. at about 11 p.m. Wed. May 3 was stopped by a thief who demanded her watch, police said. The victim, 26, of Manhattan, surrendered her Technomatic watch valued at $1,639, police said.
Gang assault
A Staten Island man, 23, told police that someone in a gang of about 10 people threw an unknown object that struck the left side of his face while he was at the corner of Thompson and W. Houston Sts. at about 1:20 a.m. Sat. May 19. The whole gang then ran east on Houston to Greene St. and then south down Greene St., police said.
Book assault
A 12-year-old student at the city’s Second Opportunity School at The Door, 555 Broome St., threw a book that hit the teacher in the right eye during a class at 10:45 a.m. Mon. May 7, police said. The teacher, 37, was treated at St. Vincent’s Hospital and the student, a Manhattan resident, was charged as a juvenile with second degree assault. The school is run by the city and is separate from The Door’s school.
Resisting drug bust
A narcotics squad officer making an arrest of a marijuana suspect in front of 305 W. Broadway between Canal and Grand Sts. at 12:45 p.m. Wed., May 16 sustained an injury to his left elbow and left shoulder when the suspect resisted, police said. Patrick Rance, 24, who gave a Chicago address, was charged with resisting arrest and marijuana possession.
B.P.C. burglary
A woman resident of 41 River Terrace told police on Monday morning May 21 that her bank phoned to tell her about unusual charges on her credit card. She then discovered that her credit and ID cards, $160 in cash and jewelry valued at $5,260 were missing from the apartment, police said. The victim, 51, told police she did not lock her door when she took her dog for a walk.
Singing the blues
A fight among singers in Mott Karaoke, a club on Mott near Pell Sts., at about 3 a.m. Sun. May 27, left a 31-year-old man with stab wounds, police said.
Jeans taken
A clerk at La Boutique, a clothing store at 47 Wooster St., told police that two men who entered the place on Monday evening May 21 looked like they were shopping but declined her assistance and ran out a short time later with a bag of 20 jeans without paying for them. The thieves fled north on Wooster St.
Bag picked
A Brooklyn woman noticed that her credit cards and $50 in cash were missing from her bag when she went to pay for a purchase from a street vender in Soho on Monday afternoon May 21, police said. The woman, 23, told police that she had just come from having coffee in the seating area of a bodega at 545 Broadway and had hung her bag on the back of her chair.
