Lower East Side assault
Police arrested Jerome Ashmore, 43, shortly before midnight Sun. June 10 at a bottle and can collection area of the Pathmark store, 227 Cherry St., and charged him with assaulting a woman, 52, who was collecting cans with him, police said. Ashmore had become angry and threw pieces of wood at his partner, hitting her in the head, arm and foot, police said. She was taken to hospital with bruises. Ashmore was also charged with weapon possession and is to appear in court again June 28. Bail was set at $6,000 cash or a $12,000 bond.
Mugged in Hudson Sq.
Four muggers attacked a man walking on Vandam St. at about 3 p.m. Sat. June 9, choked and kicked him, and attempted to take the bag from his shoulder after they knocked him down, police said. The gang took the victim’s wallet from the bag, fled east on Vandam and north on Sixth Ave. The victim pursued them and phoned 911 on his cell phone. Police from the First and Sixth Precincts met the victim at Sixth Ave. at W. Third St. but the thieves, described only as four black males, had disappeared. The victim’s wallet had $25 in cash, credit cards and keys.
Subway robbery
A Bronx man, 20, waiting on the platform of the A,C,E Canal subway station on at about 3:30 a.m. Fri June 15, was surprised by a man who came up from behind and said, “Don’t move, I have a gun. Give me your wallet and your bag.” The victim never saw the robber and gave what he demanded before he fled, police said.
Assault on Varick St.
A man told police that an assailant took his cell phone and hit him in the eye with it in the lobby of 205 Varick St. at Houston St. at noon on Fri. June 15. The victim said he had previously seen his attacker, described as a 6’3” black man in his early 20s, carrying a gun in the neighborhood.
Nose bite arrest
An argument between two men on the northwest corner of Canal St. and Broadway at about 7:15 p.m. Sat. June 15 ended when one man bit off the tip of his adversary’s nose, police said. Noumou Sam, 38, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. The victim, 41, of Brooklyn, was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he underwent plastic surgery.
Bicycling thief
A man on a bicycle stopped a woman, 36, who was walking north on Sullivan St. between Prince and Spring Sts. at 4 a.m. Sun. June 17, said he had a gun and demanded her bag, police said. The thief took the bag and the victim’s cell phone and rode away, police said. The woman wasn’t able to phone police until she got to her apartment at Broadway and Lafayette St.
Transit worker assaulted
A transit employee, 52, sustained cuts to the top of his head when a man hit him at 1 p.m. Wed. June 14 in the Fulton St. subway station, police said. The assailant was described only as a white male, about 5’9”.
Bogus bomb threat
An anonymous phone call to NASDAQ at 1 Liberty Plaza on Wednesday morning June 20 said a bomb would go off in the building located across from World Trade Center site at 9:30 a.m., police said. The threat was determined to be false and the building was not evacuated. The offices of the W.T.C. Memorial Foundation and the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. are also in the building.
Zong gone
A man who parked his 2006 Zong Shen motorcycle on Watts and Sullivan Sts. in Soho at 3 a.m. Fri. June 8 returned at 5 p.m. and discovered the bike, valued at $2,000, had been stolen, police said.
Moonstruck burglary
Burglars broke into the Moonstruck Diner at 80 Sixth Ave. between Grand and Canal Sts. sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. Tues. June 19, police said. They took an ATM machine, a camera, $250 and a case of beer, police said.
Tool thieves
Burglars broke into a construction site at 16 Warren St. between Broadway and Church St. through a front door sometime between 8 p.m. Sat. June 16 and 7 a.m. Tues. June 19 and took between 15 and 20 power tools valued at $10,736, police said.
