Police dogs were part of the increased patrol outside the New York Stock Exchange on Monday.
Kayaker saved
The crew of the NY Waterway ferry Yogi Berra rescued an Independence Plaza resident whose kayak overturned in the Hudson River near the World Financial Center at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21, said Pat Smith, a Waterway spokesperson.
Smith said Captain Vincent Lucante spotted the man in the water and maneuvered close to the victim. Deckhands Matt Warta and Jose Navarro put a rescue ladder over the side, climbed down and pulled the victim aboard the ferry, which was bound for the W. 38th St. slip from Bedford, N.J.
The ferry proceeded to the World Financial Center slip where an Emergency Medical Squad was waiting, but the victim, identified as Scott Geyer, 51, of Harrison St., refused medical attention.
