Police Plaza crash
An 80-year-old motorist was driving on Worth St. near Park Row at 3:03 p.m. on Sun., Oct. 11 when he lost control of his 2000 Toyota and crashed into the barrier in front of 1 Police Plaza, police said. The driver was distracted by his wife, 79, who was riding beside him at the time, police said. The driver was not injured but his wife was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.
Seaport suspect arrested
Virginia police arrested Londell Squire, 21, last week in connection with the Aug. 22 shooting death at the South St. Seaport of Omar Trent, 21, a disc jockey who was spinning at a party boat. A spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney said Wednesday that Squire was being held near Richmond, Va., pending extradition to New York on a murder charge.
Trent and Squire were involved in a brawl aboard the crowded yacht Atlantica during a party attended by several hundred revelers. The fight spilled out onto a parking lot at the Seaport where Trent was shot in the head and died at the scene.
Subway D.O.A.
The body of an unidentified man was discovered on the uptown D train tracks at the Broadway-Lafayette St. station at 10:12 p.m. Sun., Oct. 11, police said. Someone pulled the emergency brake of a train in the station at the time, but the body was not discovered until the train pulled out of the station, according to press reports.
Bank robbery attempt
Police are seeking public assistance in finding the suspect in the attempted robbery of the Bank of America branch at 150 Broadway on Wed., Oct. 7. The suspect, described as a white man between 30 and 40 years old with dark brown shoulder-length hair, about 5’6” tall, weighing about 175 pounds entered the bank at 12:35 p.m. and passed a note to a teller demanding money. The robber, wearing a gray fedora, a blue long-sleeve button-down shirt and blue jeans, fled without taking anything, police said.
