M.E. rules accident
The Medical Examiner’s office on Dec. 9 determined that New York University freshman Stephen Bohler, 18, jumped to his death on Oct. 10 from the 10th-floor balcony of N.Y.U.’s Bobst Library on Washington Sq. S. under the influence of hallucinogenic mushrooms and marijuana and that his death was therefore deemed accidental.
Bohler, a member of the university’s diving team from Irvine, Cal., was the second student this autumn to die in a plunge from an upper balcony into the atrium of the library.
John Beckman, the university’s spokesperson, said Bohler’s death was “a terrible tragedy. However the Medical Examiner ruled, it would not have altered this sad truth.”
The first death, of Jack Skolnick, 20, who jumped to his death on Sept. 12, has been deemed a suicide. The Medical Examiner’s office is still investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal plunge of Michelle Gluckman, 19, another N.Y.U. student, on Oct. 18 from the window of a friend’s apartment at 1 University Pl.
