Hudson Sq. arrest
Police arrested David Robinson, 38, on July 22 and charged him with attempted murder in connection with the July 20 point-blank shooting and wounding of a worker at a Hudson Sq. construction site. Also arrested and charged with second degree assault in connection with the case was Gerard Martin, 22, Robinson’s son and fellow worker of the victim, Juan Jose Isaza Mazo.
The shooting at 499 Greenwich St. was the topper to a trivial argument over an apple and a bottle of soda between Martin and Mazo who had long-standing issues with each other, said Capt. Michael Hurley, commanding officer of the First Precinct.
According to the criminal information filed with the District Attorney’s office, Martin called his father on a cell phone and gave the phone to Mazo. The victim told police that Robinson said, “I’m going to get you,” the information says.
At 1 p.m. Robinson arrived at the second floor of the construction site, got involved in the argument between Mazo and Martin and then pulled a pistol and fired, grazing Mazo’s head, police said. “Both defendant Robinson and Martin kicked [Mazo] while he lay on the floor after collapsing from being shot, and both men then fled the scene,” the charge says.
Battery Park City D.O.A.
Police said the body of Thomas Comenza was found in his apartment at 375 South End Ave. by a friend on Sun. July 25. There was no sign of forced entry and some medication and a small amount of cocaine were in the apartment, police said. The Medical Examiner’s office is investigating the cause of death.
Construction site assault
A worker at a construction site at 19 Warren St. attacked a fellow worker in a freight elevator at 11 a.m. Wed. July 21, punched and kicked him, struck him with wire cutters and fled, police said. The victim suffered a broken nose, multiple cuts on the face, head and torso and was treated at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Police are seeking a suspect, Eric Jimenez, in connection with the case.
Canal St. robbery
A man approached a couple on Canal St. at Sixth Ave. shortly before 5 p.m. Mon. July 26 and told them to follow him around the corner for a good deal on CDs, police said. Around the corner, he slammed the man against a wall and said. “Look, I have a knife. Just give me your money.” The victim, an 18-year-old Queens man, pulled out his wallet and the robber grabbed $415 in cash and fled west on Canal St., police said. The victim and his woman companion, 18, were not hurt. The robber was described as a dark-complexioned black man with long braids, dressed in blue clothes and a white hat and wearing dark glasses.
Leonard St. theft
An unknown thief took $9,000 in cash from an office on the third floor of 17 Leonard St. on Thurs. July 22, police said. There was no sign of forced entry and only two people were in the office suite when the theft was discovered, police said.
Motorcycle gone
A thief cut the chain around a black Honda motorcycle parked in front of the Embassy Suites on North End Ave. at about 10:20 p.m. Sun. July 25 and made off with it, police said.
Franklin St. burglary
Burglars entered an apartment at 74 Franklin St. sometime between 10 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. Wed. July 21 and stole cameras, a laptop computer, a college ring and a DVD player with a total value of $4,000, police said. There was no sign of forced entry and aside from the four roommate tenants, the only known keys were held by the real estate agent and the cleaning service, police said.
